Ingredients

  • spaghetti - 225.0 g
  • olive oil - 2.0 tbsp
  • onion - 1.0 whole
  • garlic - 2.0 pcs
  • crushed tomatoes - 1.0 can
  • dried oregano - 1.0 tsp
  • dried basil - 1.0 tsp
  • red pepper flakes - 0.5 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • black pepper - to taste
  • basil leaves - to taste

Cooking Steps

Step 1

Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and cook for about 3-4 minutes until it becomes translucent.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown.

Step 4

Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine. Add the dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low, and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken.

Step 6

Once the marinara sauce has reached your desired consistency, taste and adjust the seasonings if needed.

Step 7

To serve, divide the cooked spaghetti among four plates. Ladle the marinara sauce over the spaghetti.

Step 8

If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves or parsley for a burst of freshness.

Step 9

Offer grated Parmesan cheese at the table so each person can sprinkle it over their serving to taste.
