These thinly sliced potatoes are smothered in a rich and cheesy sauce, then baked to golden perfection. This dish is easy to make, but will impress your guests with its delicious and comforting flavor. Serve it as a side dish or main meal for a warm and satisfying meal that everyone will love.

Ingredients

  • potatoes - 2.0 lb
  • butter - 3.0 tbsp
  • all-purpose flour - 3.0 tbsp
  • milk - 2.0 cup
  • grated cheddar cheese - 1.0 cup
  • salt - 1.0 tsp
  • black pepper - 0.3 tsp
  • garlic powder - 0.3 tsp
  • paprika - 0.3 tsp

Cooking Steps

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 3750F (1900C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Step 2

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir to combine.

Step 3

Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4

Add the grated cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to the sauce. Stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

Step 5

Layer the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Pour the sauce over the potatoes, making sure to cover them completely.

Step 6

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.

Step 7

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.

Step 8

Let the scalloped potatoes cool for a few minutes before serving.
