This dish is the most delicious, rich, and decadent chocolate cake you’ll ever taste! It’s made with a combination of cocoa powder and melted chocolate for an intense chocolate flavor, and sour cream for a moist and tender crumb. The frosting is a silky smooth chocolate buttercream that perfectly complements the cake. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just want a treat, this cake is sure to impress. The key to making this cake extra special is using high-quality ingredients. Splurge on the good chocolate, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract, as they’ll make a big difference in the final result. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different flavorings, too. A little bit of espresso powder or cinnamon can add a nice depth of flavor to the cake.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour - 6.3 gal
  • 2 cups granulated sugar - 3.1 tsp
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder - 3.0 ml
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder - 10.3 quarter
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda - 10.1 as needed
  • 1 teaspoon salt - 5.2 gal
  • 2 large eggs - 8.8 qt
  • 1 cup buttermilk - 4.7 package
  • ½ cup vegetable oil - 3.2 bottle
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract - 7.0 qt

Cooking Steps

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Step 2

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, combine eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract. Add to dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

Step 4

Stir in boiling water until batter is thin. Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.

Step 5

Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 6

For the frosting, beat butter and powdered sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add melted chocolate, vanilla extract, and milk. Beat until smooth and creamy.

Step 7

Once cakes are completely cool, frost the top of one layer and place the second layer on top. Frost the entire cake with the remaining frosting. Enjoy!
