Longevity noodles are a traditional Chinese New Year dish that are easy to make and full of symbolic meaning. The noodles are traditionally served uncut to represent long life, and are paired with a flavorful sauce and your choice of protein and vegetables.

Ingredients

  • Chinese egg noodles - 1.0 lb
  • soy sauce - 0.3 cup
  • sesame oil - 2.0 tbsp
  • vegetable oil - 2.0 tbsp
  • garlic, minced - 4.0 pcs
  • brown sugar - 1.0 tbsp
  • black pepper - 0.3 tsp
  • Protein of your choice (such as sliced chicken, beef, or tofu) - 1.0 as needed
  • Vegetables of your choice (such as sliced carrots, bell peppers, or snow peas) - 1.0 as needed

Cooking Steps

Step 1

Cook the noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, vegetable oil, minced garlic, brown sugar, and black pepper until well combined.

Step 3

In a wok or large skillet, cook the protein and vegetables over high heat until they are cooked through. Add the cooked noodles to the wok and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes.

Step 4

Pour the sauce over the noodles and stir until the noodles are evenly coated.

Step 5

Serve the longevity noodles hot, garnished with sliced scallions or cilantro if desired.
