This Spicy Thai Basil Chicken recipe, also known as Pad Kra Pao Gai, is a quick and easy stir-fry that's bursting with flavor. Ground chicken is stir-fried with fresh basil, chilies, garlic, and a savory-sweet sauce. Serve it over rice for a delicious and satisfying meal that's ready in under an hour. Adjust the amount of chili to your preferred spice level. For an even richer flavor, consider adding a fried egg on top!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken - 1.9 box
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced - 2.6 ml
  • 2-3 Thai chilies, chopped (adjust to taste) - 0.6 package
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce - 1.6 package
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce - 4.3 drop
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce - 6.2 jar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar - 1.8 box
  • 2 tablespoons water - 2.0 cm
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil - 7.9 gal
  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves - 7.8 to taste

Cooking Steps

Step 1

Prepare the sauce by combining soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and water in a small bowl. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and set aside.

Step 2

Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and chopped chilies. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 3

Add ground chicken to the wok and break it up with a spatula. Stir-fry until the chicken is cooked through and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4

Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and stir well to combine. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for a few minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Step 5

Add the fresh basil leaves to the wok and stir until they are wilted, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

Remove from heat and serve immediately over cooked rice. Garnish with extra basil leaves and sliced chilies, if desired.

Step 7

Optionally, top with a fried egg for added richness.
