This Spicy Thai Basil Chicken, also known as Pad Kra Pao Gai, is a flavorful and aromatic stir-fry that's quick and easy to make. Ground chicken is stir-fried with fresh basil, chilies, garlic, and a savory-sweet sauce. The dish is traditionally served over rice with a fried egg on top. You can easily adjust the spice level to your preference by adding more or fewer chilies. It is also a great meal for a weeknight dinner. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil - 9.2 cup
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced - 4.7 l
  • 2-3 Thai chilies, finely chopped (adjust to your spice preference) - 2.4 ml
  • 1 pound ground chicken - 2.6 can
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce - 9.1 pt
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce - 0.8 fl oz
  • 1 teaspoon fish sauce - 9.8 ml
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar - 7.9 mg
  • 2 tablespoons water - 1.9 bag
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves - 7.5 package

Cooking Steps

Step 1

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and water. Set aside.

Step 2

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and chilies and stir-fry for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant.

Step 3

Add the ground chicken to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat.

Step 4

Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and stir well to combine. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.

Step 5

Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the fresh basil leaves until they are wilted.

Step 6

Serve the Spicy Thai Basil Chicken over cooked rice. Top with a fried egg, if desired.

Step 7

Garnish with extra fresh basil leaves and sliced chilies.
