Ingredients

  • soy sauce - 0.5 cup
  • mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine) - 0.3 cup
  • sake (Japanese rice wine) or dry white wine - 0.3 cup
  • brown sugar - 2.0 tbsp
  • honey - 1.0 tbsp
  • garlic - 1.0 whole
  • ginger - 1.0 tsp
  • cornstarch - 1.0 tsp
4 Servings

Cooking Steps

Step 1

In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, honey, minced garlic, and grated ginger.

Step 2

Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir the mixture until the sugar has dissolved completely.

Step 3

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Step 4

If you prefer a thicker sauce, in a small bowl, mix cornstarch with a teaspoon of water to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the sauce and cook for an additional minute until it thickens.

Step 5

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the teriyaki sauce cool down.

Step 6

Transfer the teriyaki sauce to a jar or airtight container for storage.
