Feel free to add vegetables such as spinach or zucchini to the meat sauce for extra nutrients and flavor. Enjoy this delicious and hearty lasagna!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef - 7.2 can
  • 1 onion, diced - 6.7 qt
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced - 6.4 gal
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes - 5.9 half
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce - 3.6 bag
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste - 3.0 inch
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning - 2.9 cup
  • Salt and pepper to taste - 8.0 cm
  • 1/2 cup butter - 7.7 bottle
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour - 4.2 cm

Cooking Steps

Step 1

Prepare the meat sauce: In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain any excess fat. Add diced onions and garlic and cook until softened. Stir in tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 2

Make the béchamel sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.

Step 3

Cook the lasagna noodles: Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and rinse with cold water to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Assemble the lasagna: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer lasagna noodles over the sauce, overlapping as needed. Spread half of the ricotta cheese over the noodles, followed by a layer of meat sauce and a layer of béchamel sauce. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.

Step 5

Repeat layers: Repeat the layers of noodles, ricotta cheese, meat sauce, béchamel sauce, and mozzarella cheese.

Step 6

Bake the lasagna: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the lasagna is heated through.

Step 7

Rest and serve: Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before cutting and serving.

Best lasagna recipe I've ever tried! The layers were well-balanced, and the flavors were spot on. The instructions were clear, and the baking time was accurate. Highly recommended!

It was okay. The meat sauce was a bit too acidic for my taste, perhaps from the tomatoes. The cheese layer was nice. I might try a different recipe next time.

A solid lasagna. Nothing particularly special, but it's a reliable recipe. The meat sauce could use a bit more depth of flavor, maybe some red wine? The cheese was good.
