This Moroccan Chicken Tagine recipe is a flavorful and aromatic dish that's perfect for a comforting meal. Tender chicken is simmered in a rich tomato-based sauce with apricots, almonds, and spices, creating a delightful sweet and savory combination. Served with couscous or your favorite grain, it's a culinary journey to Morocco right in your kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 2-inch pieces - 6.0 bottle
  • 1 tsp salt - 0.9 lb
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper - 10.4 tbsp
  • 1 tsp ground ginger - 2.0 l
  • 1 tsp turmeric - 5.2 pcs
  • 1 tsp ground cumin - 3.1 package
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon - 6.4 gal
  • Pinch of saffron threads - 2.9 fl oz
  • 2 tbsp olive oil - 3.9 tbsp
  • 1 large onion, chopped - 10.4 quarter

Cooking Steps

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the chicken pieces with salt, pepper, ginger, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, and saffron. Mix well to ensure the chicken is evenly coated with the spices.

Step 2

Heat olive oil in a large tagine or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 3

Add the spiced chicken to the tagine and brown on all sides. This step helps to seal in the flavors and adds depth to the dish.

Step 4

Pour in the crushed tomatoes and chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook for 30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender.

Step 5

Stir in the dried apricots and honey. Continue to simmer for another 10 minutes, allowing the apricots to soften and the flavors to meld together.

Step 6

Garnish with toasted almonds and chopped fresh cilantro. Serve the Moroccan Chicken Tagine hot, with couscous or your choice of grain.

Step 7

Serve hot and enjoy!

Great recipe! The aroma while it was simmering was amazing. I found that I needed to add a bit more liquid, but overall, a wonderful dish.

A very good recipe. The chicken was perfectly cooked. I added a touch of saffron for a more authentic taste.
