Prepare the meat sauce: In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat. Add diced onions, minced garlic, and cook until softened. Stir in tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Make the béchamel sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and nutmeg.
Cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and lay flat on a sheet of parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Assemble the lasagna: Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer with lasagna noodles, followed by ricotta cheese, a layer of meat sauce, and a drizzle of béchamel sauce. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
Repeat layers: Continue layering noodles, ricotta, meat sauce, béchamel, and mozzarella until all ingredients are used, ending with a top layer of noodles, meat sauce, béchamel, and a generous amount of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the lasagna is heated through.
Rest: Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the layers to set and makes it easier to cut.
This lasagna was delicious. The meat sauce was flavorful, and the béchamel was smooth and creamy. My only suggestion is to maybe add some fresh basil for extra flavor.
Very flavorful lasagna. The instructions were easy to understand. I had a bit of trouble getting the layers even, but the taste was excellent.
Pretty good. It took longer to bake than expected. The sauce was a bit watery, but overall, it tasted good. I would try again with some adjustments.
It was decent. The lasagna was a bit dry, maybe from overbaking. I think it could use more moisture in the sauce. I may try again, but I'd adjust the cooking time.
This lasagna is a game-changer! The best lasagna I've ever tasted. The layers were perfect, and the cheese was perfectly melted and bubbly. 10/10!
