Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and sugar to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian herbs. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Stir in heavy cream or crème fraîche into the tomato sauce. Mix well until the sauce is smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add some of the reserved pasta water until desired consistency is reached.
Serve immediately, garnished with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese. A drizzle of olive oil can be added for extra flavor.

Very good and easy to make. Great for a quick weeknight dinner. I added a touch of nutmeg, and it was delicious.
Very good recipe. The simplicity is what makes it great. I used fresh basil from my garden, and it really made a difference.
Simple, yet so satisfying. The sauce is rich and the pasta cooks perfectly. I added a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little kick. Highly recommend.
Absolutely delicious! The sauce is incredibly creamy and flavorful. The perfect comfort food. I'll be making this often!
A good basic recipe. I think it could benefit from a little more seasoning. Maybe some oregano or Italian seasoning.
