In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium-high heat. Drain any excess grease.
Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
While the sauce simmers, prepare the béchamel sauce. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Layer lasagna noodles, meat sauce, béchamel sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of cheese.
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Absolutely delicious! The meat sauce was incredibly flavorful, and the béchamel was so creamy. My family devoured this classic lasagna. Will definitely make it again!
It was a decent lasagna. I might try a different cheese combination next time to enhance the flavor.
Excellent! The lasagna was a big hit at our family gathering. The combination of flavors and textures was perfect.
Easy to follow recipe. The lasagna turned out really well. I would add more cheese next time.
I struggled with the béchamel, it came out lumpy. The meat sauce was also a bit bland. Needs more seasoning.
