This delightful French Apple Tart, or Tarte Tatin, is a simple yet elegant dessert that showcases the natural sweetness and tartness of apples. The apples are caramelized in butter and sugar before being baked under a buttery pastry crust. The tart is then inverted, revealing the glistening, caramelized apples. Serve warm with a dollop of crème fraîche or vanilla ice cream for an unforgettable treat. Its rustic charm and delectable flavor make it a perfect dessert for any occasion, from casual family gatherings to elegant dinner parties. Each bite offers a harmonious blend of textures and tastes, making it a comforting and sophisticated dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter - 5.0 bag
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar - 4.7 mg

Cooking Steps

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9-inch oven-safe skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sugar and cook, stirring constantly, until caramelized.

Step 2

Arrange apple slices tightly in a circular pattern over the caramelized sugar. Cook for 15-20 minutes, until apples are softened and slightly caramelized.

Step 3

Roll out puff pastry to a 12-inch circle. Place pastry over apples, tucking edges down inside the skillet.

Step 4

Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until pastry is golden brown and puffed up.

Step 5

Let cool for 10 minutes. Place a serving plate over skillet and carefully invert the tart.

Step 6

Serve warm, with crème fraîche or vanilla ice cream if desired. Enjoy the delightful Tarte Tatin!

Step 7

Brush with apricot jam, warmed in the microwave for a few seconds, for shine.

Good, but it took longer than expected to caramelize the apples. Next time I'll try a different type of apple.
