Purim is the Jewish festival that commemorates our deliverance from oppression under the ancient Persian Empire. Hamentaschen (“ears of Haman”) is a symbolic dish eaten during the Purim festival. The Purim story's antagonist is Haman. This triangular-shaped cookie is meant to symbolize Haman's ears or his three-cornered hat. Each "hat" has a jam or sweet filling in the middle.
